My oh my but it's been a busy couple of weeks!
First off, congratulations to my good friends Ross and Lisa on their wedding last week. Good people, good wedding, good time. It was a pleaure to reconnect with some friends that I hadn't seen in a while and enjoy the beautiful landscape of Southwest Minnesota (yes, it is beautiful). It was also great to do my first wedding photography gig with the friendly help of my friend Matthew, who did a bang-up job of the wedding party photos while I posed for them.
While we were down in that part of the continent we thought that it would also be a good idea to grab all of our belongings and move to Winnipeg real quick a minute. So last Sinday we up and left Sioux Center and hauled it over to the Peg, to our new apartment. So this week we got acquainted with our new neighbourhood. I was saying to my wife earlier today that, the month of May notwithstanding, moving back to Winnipeg after five years of being away, into a neighbourhood that I've never lived in, is kind of like seeing a movie again that I was too young for the first time. It's better now.
So once we get more settled and can access the internets again watch for more Winnipeg photos, this time probably featuring more of our NEW neighbourhood: Wolseley/West Broadway.

Elmwood-Kildonan Pool is where I took swimming lessons as a kid. It's also another good example of that "Northern Modernism" that I mentioned in an earlier post about the zoo. This is one of the those buildings that I just simply cannot shake, emotionally speaking. Every time I drive past it I feel wistful.
Concordia Hill. This is just a couple of blocks west and north from the pool. A popular tobogganing site, Concordia Hill is actually a big garbage heap. Indeed. It's beautiful in its way, though, I think. Once some friends and I almost got in a pretty nasty fight with a couple of neighbourhood toughs while drunkenly tobogganing down the hill late one winter night. I was yelling to my friends from the top of the hill and the toughs thought that I was yelling at them. Luckily we outnumbered them four to two.
Kildonan-East Collegiate. I turned 180 degrees from where I was facing for the last picture to take this one. "KE" is a high-school and technical/vocational school. It's earned a reputation for being a bit rough and frequently students from KE and River East Collegiate (to be featured soon) get in fights with each other. At least that used to be the case.
MTS Station. This is just a random station for Manitoba Telecom Services. I thought that it was interesting so I stopped and snapped this shot while driving by. I have no story about this.
Update
Here are a few of my favourite shots from the Zoo post which I've retouched a bit.
