Univer 59

There's something pleasingly old school about Univers 59, don't you think?
I like it.

Since I did Matthew's name yesterday, here's another native Minneapolitan.

Hani: I had already made your name by time you left that comment on "Jacob."

Also, after work the other night I went for a little walk around the neighbourhood with my camera and tripod. Here are a couple of shots that I took of the retirement community near our place.

Day #37: Laurel

Another experiment with a bit of stretching and drop shadows. It's been a few months now since I experimented with stretching, and I must say that I still do kind of like the results sometimes. This is about 75% width and 105% height. I don't know that I'd ever push it much more than that. At some point it shifts from somewhat interesting typographic experiment to direct-mailer. Like fashion, experiemental/throwback typography exists on a continuum. As Eddie Izzard puts it, at some point looking groovy starts to bleed into looking like a dickhead.

Carefully executed, stretched fonts can look kind of groovy.

Day #36: Ethan

So I made this last week in honour of my friend, Ethan, being in town AND it being his birthday, but I obviously didn't get around to posting it. So, Happy Birthday, Ethan, even when your birthday's through.

Update

I haven't given up on the names project. Things are busy right now and so it's fallen into the background a bit. I'll be posting more names soon and will do a better job of keeping up with it than I have the last couple of weeks again.
